Tough place for an out-of-towner
I arrived at Temptations just before midnight on a Thursday night. When I arrived, I was charged $15 for cover and patted down by a security guard.
The layout of the club is pretty simple - a large stage at the front, two smaller stages to the left and right of it (not in use during my visit), and two still smaller circular stages on the floor. There are circular tables all over the main floor, and some large booths in back. There is a VIP area tucked away in the corner in near-total darkness; there are several booths back here, and the arrangement allows for some privacy. There were about 20-30 patrons in the club during my visit. There were about 10 to 12 dancers working; most were in the 5-7 range. There were about six to eight white dancers and four AA dancers, all in at least pretty good shape.
The club is BYOB, though they did have soft drinks available for $5 and a champagne special for $40. There was only one waitress on duty, but she was attentive and stopped by every 10 to 20 minutes to make sure I didn't need anything. The manager also stopped by a couple of times to try to sell me on the champagne special; I wasn't interested, but the manager was courteous and not an annoyance.
Right when I sat down, an older redheaded white dancer came over to my table and asked if I wanted company, which I accepted. She gave the stripper handshake and asked if I'd like to go back to VIP and "have some fun." I wanted to enjoy the stage show for a while so I declined. I noticed that not many patrons seemed to be going back for lap dances or even leaving stage tips - most just sat at their tables and enjoyed the drinks they had brought and shared with the dancers.
After a while, the redheaded dancer went on stage; unlike all of the other dancers, she performed completely nude. After she got off stage, she returned to my table (I had tipped her during her performance) and asked if I'd changed my mind about dances. I suggested we go back to the VIP; I paid $20 for a wristband and we took the booth in the back. She asked me how much fun I was looking to have / how much money I was looking to spend. I said I could spend $120, and she said she could give five dances, and there would be mutual touching and I could DATY if I wanted. I didn't do that, for safety reasons, but there was some mutual touching, which was fun. On the fifth song (and some prior to that) she reached into my shorts and played with my equipment, but was pretty rough with it (and had long fingernails), which made this hard to enjoy. After the fifth song I asked how much for one more song, and she said I could pull it out if I spent $80 more. At this point (given that the lack of satisfaction seemed due more to issues with technique than interest on her part) I decided to cut bait and return to the floor. Overall not the best experience - the dance was fine but felt a little bit like going through the motions.
At this point there were three stages in use, the main stage and the two small satellite stages. Each dancer stayed on each stage for three songs, which meant that if you saw a dancer you liked, she'd be on stage for about 25 more minutes before she was free for dances - not great. It didn't matter anyway, since all the dancers, when finished with their rotations, found tables with other patrons (I assume regulars) and sat and socialized. Unfortunate, because I was prepared to spend more on lap dances, but couldn't find any other takers until I had decided to leave. I know that sometimes the expectation is that customers will take more initiative, but I had signaled my interest pretty clearly with several of the younger cuter dancers and got nothing. I think if I'd been more of a regular presence there I'd have had more luck, but this was frustrating for someone just visiting from out of town. I think that during my two-hour stay there, about three or four customers went back to the VIP. Just felt like people were there to hang out, and doing anything more than that wasn't really on anybody's agenda.
The club is conveniently located for some of my business trips, so I might return. I didn't spend a ton of money and leave feeling swindled; I just found that there was a lot of unrealized potential there.
