I was in a band here in Indiana in the seventies and one of the local musicians switched from modeling himself after glam rocker David Bowie to becoming a roots rocker like Bruce Springsteen and saw great success after the switch as Johnny Cougar, later known as John Cougar Mellencamp. David Bowie himself later moved away from his Ziggy Stardust glam rock character, undergoing several transformations.
