Man Arrested For Lap Dance Theft Spree: Accused laplifter ran up $650 strip club tab
MARCH 10--A Florida Man has been arrested for allegedly laplifting from a strip club, records show.
Police allege that Roberto Maldonado, 46, got 15 straight “private dances” early Friday morning at Reign, a gentlemen's club in Clearwater. The dances cost $40 apiece, and an additional $50 “review fee” brought his tab up to $650.
However, after Maldonado enjoyed the lap dance marathon, he refused to pay the stripper’s total bill, instead offering only $50. He “subsequently refused to pay any amount,” according to an arrest report.
When police arrived at the club around 1:15 AM, a cop explained to Maldonado--who “appeared under the influence”--that “payment was required for the services he had requested and received.”
Maldonado, cops say, “spoke incoherently” and was “speaking in circles.” He refused to make any effort to pay the lap dance balance.
Maldonado was arrested and booked into the county jail, where he spent the night before being released on his own recognizance. A judge has ordered him to stay away from Reign and other bars or clubs, and prohibited him from using alcohol or illegal drugs. Maldonado must also submit to any alcohol or drug testing requested by the court or law enforcement officials.
While statutorily charged with theft, a misdemeanor, Maldonado actually engaged in laplifting, the preferred Sunshine State portmanteau for lap dance + shoplifting.
