...while sitting in court listening to people formerly in love hate on each other. Yes, it was incredibly exciting and interesting the first 1,000 times, but for the last 400,000 times, not so much. Appearing before a judge who doesn't like cell phones and got pissed off when I brought in a newspaper instead, leaving me to just sit there and think of idiotic things. Here's today's list:

  1. While Aces and 8s is the most famous poker hand (Wild Bill Hickok was holding it when a coward shot him in the back) the most famous single card is 9 of diamonds, also known as the curse of Scotland. Why? in 1602 the Erl of Stair put the MacDonald clan to death. A nervous page could not repeat verbatim the order from the Earl, who instead wrote it on a playing card, the 9 of Diamonds.
  2. If people would actually comply when the police order them to do so and let the courts deal later with any wrongs committed, there'd be maybe 10 police shootings a year.
  3. I saw someone jump off the observation deck of the UMass. Library, which at 26 stories (deck, not roof) was then the tallest library in the world. It shouldn't have surprised me then, nor still boggle my mind, but like anything else falling from a great height, people bounce, they don't just splat.
  4. One case that did pique my interest was the dad calling Mom a child abuser and an incompetent because she left the 10-year-old home overnight with her 15-year-old. When I was 12, I was paid $100.00 to babysit a former' neighbors 2 kids over night for 26 hours on New Year's Eve, 1970. I had never seen Gino's frozen pizza before then and felt like I should have paid them. The kids locked me out when I went outside to smoke a cigarette.
  5. I did my first fmf in 1973 when I was 15 with the first and third girls I had fucked
  6. Drake Maye throws the prettiest and most accurate long ball I have ever seen.
  7. I usually shoot between 85 and 92 at golf (100% strict rules of golf so i would shoot in the 70s if I scored like my peers), but if I ever played a round with Paige Spirinac, it would closer to 185 to 192.

hat idiotic things did you think of today and when you were thinking were you grossing $375 an hour?

Good stuff. I think of stuff I did or didn’t do that I regret. I wish I could go back and re do it.

When I was about 8 I sucker punched a neighbor who wouldn’t give me the baseball cards I won off him pitching cards. He wouldn’t play with me after that and when it got back to my dad he called me a little punk and said I should be ashamed of myself.

I didn’t pick my good friend’s kid for the little league team I coached when he was 12, so he had to play in the lower league with 9 and 10 year olds. He was the only 12 yo not picked. Good kid.

When I was about 19 I loudly said to a girl I was friends with, “Hey Sally - why do you always act like you’re on the rag!” My buddies laughed and she turned a deep shade of red and walked away.

When I was 18 or 19 I used a racist slur to refer to a boxer I didn’t like and a mixed race friend of mine said, “I can’t believe you just said that.” He was more bummed out than mad. I was very embarrassed and never used those kind of words again.

When she was in her 80s I was talking to my mom about our old family home. She was going on about it and I said I didn’t miss that little shithole. It made her sad and I felt awful. We had a happy home growing up. Many other times I acted like an asshole pop into my mind occasionally for no apparent reason.

This is pretty deep stuff compared to my thoughts when bored: What does she look like naked? How can I get laid today?

When Brynn walked in the room I immediately thought of her naked. 43 years and maybe 5 female attorneys have made me think that. Not a supermodel profession.
