Tip Culture Reality Check

What tipping respectfully looks like vs. “I spent $9 on a Bud Light so I basically paid your rent.”

I’ve never been lowballed, but let’s be honest: if you can’t tip, you probably shouldn’t be in a strip club. This isn’t a charity. If you don’t value the art and athleticism on stage, maybe the club just isn’t for you.

Tipping isn’t optional here. It’s part of the culture, the contract, and the respect. If the experience isn’t worth $20 in singles to you, you’re in the wrong place.

Merry Christmas. What club do you work at?

I get the OP's point, but needs to choose words differently. "This isn't a charity"? If I am expected to give money for nothing, then it IS a charity. Just in the opposite direction of what they are saying.

If, on the other hand, I provide extra money for a performance I really appreciate, then that is not charity. In that case, the dancer and I are beaming tangible goods back and forth at one another.

I was actually aiming towards dancers but idk. Missed the point. I get targeted relentlessly by showgirls bc of my talent and appearance.

Like many customers, I'm there for lap dances. If I'm waiting for a fav, I'll tip each dancer on stage a couple dollars as a courtesy. At my favorite club, the stages are often empty, because there is no obligatory stage rotation. I generally don't tip for lap dances, unless the base price is under $20 per song.

"Tipping isn’t optional here."

Yes it is.

All tipping, everywhere, for anything, is optional. Customers are free to not tip at any time. Of course, you are free to not patronize those customers who decide not to tip as well. What you don't get to do is tell people how to spend their money, no more than the customer gets to tell you how to perform.

There are very, very few occupations which are truly being worked for tips. There are some occupations where tipping is incorporated into the pay structure (which is BS). Stripping is neither of these occupations. Tipping is a pay for performance 1099 job. You should not be working for tips, you should be earning them along with whatever the listed rates are for dances. Now, if I request a lap dance and a lap dance is performed, then payment is not optional - but tipping is. Tipping is, by its very definition, optional.

Thank you for playing, better luck next time.
