I am a firm believer that if you don't do right by people, life will not go right for you.
You cannot lie, manipulate, and harm others and expect to live in peace.
Sooner or later, what you put out will come back to you, is what some call Karma; the spiritual principle that one's actions have future consequences.
Karma is sometimes is used to mean simply "what goes around comes around".

There is an old saying "cheaters never prosper". This is certainly applicable to strip clubs here in Indianapolis. This town is not a tourist destination so the strippers rely on repeat business. The ones who do best are the ones who try to treat the customers fairly rather engage in cheating, lying and manipulation.
I have free will so I can believe what I choose, and I choose to believe in karma. If someone gives me too much change, I return it. If someone forgets to charge me for something I chase him down to pay him. I do it because I'm selfish. I believe I will benefit by doing right by others. Some people think they'll get ahead in life by cheating others. Based on my experience, they're wrong.
