about 2 weeks ago two of my friends got jacked while riding in a taxi back to the Border. they were just one block from the drop off by Ped East. Bandits with badges in a police car lit up the taxi and the taxi stopped. the bandits walked up to the taxi and pulled out my friends from the back seat and frisked them. the bandits with badges took all the money they found on my friends. the driver was never bothered by the policia. the driver remained in his Taxi.

Every time I think "I need to go down there" I read a post like this and say "nah, I'm good."

Sucky experience. This behavior could tank the Tijuana economy.

Mexican cops have always been somewhat corrupt but now it's ridiculous in Tijuana.

Need to use the HK shuttle going to and from the border in order to avoid being stopped and frisked by the bandits with badges for now. The shuttle does not get stopped by the police.

@loper: I agree. If this nonsense keeps happening, the Zona Norte will start to see fewer and fewer mongers visiting. Eventually the HK ownership and the other club owners need to start protesting the police methods - or else their bottom lines are going to start getting impacted adversely.

Yet another reason that the TJ vibe weirds me out. I couldn't have a good time needing eyes in the back of my head.

You could see the same thing start happening in the US with black cops, or to greencard holders. The direction were headed towards is that certain races have less rights as well as permanent residents have less rights. You could see something exactly like this play out here where the uber driver is left alone but the passengers are frisked, robbed, beaten etc

Those guys werent mexican citizens, they were just visiting mexico, which gives the police the right to frisk and rob them, according to many in the US right now

Lately,I am also hearing the same shit quite frequently and it’s becoming somewhat concerning ( Bandits with badges, harassing visitors that are simply minding their own business while riding in a taxi to/fro from the border and the zona area ). If this trend continues, then it’ll definitely affect the TJ mongering business. As we all are already noticing, many of their local clubs ( besides HK club ) seem to be already dying down in business.

The only thing that keeps me coming over and over again to TJ, is the value and safety ( as it’s been for many years and hopefully it stays that way for many years to come ).Otherwise, I still know a lot of friends at our local SoCal clubs and I wouldn’t hesitate switching back over in a blink, until things calm down across the border. IMO TJ clubbing is awesome and that too at a great value, but thanks to these fucking bandits with badges that are lately acting too brazenly and spoiling the FUN for all of us 🙄

I am honestly looking at other places to monger this summer. Maybe another Mexican city like Guadalajara or Mexico City, or Medellin in Colombia, or go back to Lima, Peru. Or maybe even Brazil. Thing is unfortunately, none of these places will be the same as TJ Zona Norte. We will see what happens.

@Jascoi, my ATF always brings this up when talking about TJ police. She's been robbed once by the TJ police twice and says it happens to locals all the time. She insists they don't single out gringos, they're all just generally corrupt.

I just got back from CDMX recently, and it's a fucking amazing city. However, the mongering scene there is marginal at best. I don't know much about these other locations, though.

I'm also wondering if booking a cross-border shuttle from Hong Kong is a way to mitigate the change encounter with police while one is holding a bag of cash. I've heard it's only $90, that seems a small price to pay to ensure one arrives at Cascadas with cash intact.

Hide your money in the ATMs and take out only enough when you need it.

@Ronjax2: that’s another good alternative. Yeah, $90 is a bit pricey, but apparently it’s worth it.

So the question becomes: Who owns the clubs like Hong Kong, and do they have the clout to reign in the cops who will otherwise kill their business? But then, I suppose we really don't want to know the answer.

And, isn't this part of the allure of the one on one encounter between the customer and the girl? For both, the world is beyond our control. If we can find someone decent to connect with for a short time, we can tune out the world. For all of us, the fleeting moments of bliss are all too short compared to the bullshit we deal with. I believe most people deserve more pleasure in life to compensate for what they go through to survive.

Crazy!!! As other's have said I think using HK shuttle back to the border is the way to go! As a person who has only visited once, having a cross interaction with LE is why I decided to be picked up in SD and transported across the boarder. $90 bucks in comparison to losing thousands is a small deposit in my opinion. Additionally, the guy who picked me up had a car magnet that said HK on it. We were not stopped at all, although he did say he has been stopped in the past but has been able to talk his way out.

I noticed that on the big screen TV in Hong Kong they are advertising a safe zona shuttle service. just tip the driver. that's how I traveled many times including this last week.

👆🏻Same here, all I’ve been doing lately is taking the club’s shuttle ( it’s either HK or CC shuttle ). Each time the ride went seamless, without any issues ( despite it being nighttime and some areas we drove by seemed quite dark/unsafe ). As such I always make it a point to tip the driver well ($10) for keeping our safety a priority. Now, most of these shuttle drivers know me quite well and are always quite attentive towards me. IMO a few extra bucks in tip to the driver is worth it and avoiding the unwanted TJ ‘Bandits with badges’ hassle.

The fact that HK acknowledges that there is risk going from the club to the border is a little disturbing.

I don't go to clubs in Tijuana. But sometimes I go dor the beaches and food scene. Ive never had a problem.

If you stick out too much as a foreigner and are going to seedy places. The mindset is that you're going there for sketchy stuff so fuck you. They don't feel bad treating you like a mark. And they think you can afford it.

that one particular block I don't consider seedy but definitely when you step away from that one block it is seedy.

Maybe 20 years ago we would go to TJ and or Ensenda all the time. Made for a fun trip. Not anymore. It is not a safe place.

First, I understand getting robbed is a crappy thing, not denying. (Here goes the "yeah, but...") Yet the costs and risks associated with other places mentioned in Latin America doesn't seem to mitigate the problem (losing money).

The benefit of TJ is access to the US is easy and flying into SD in theory should be much cheaper than other places in Latin America. If the possibility (key word) of getting robbed for $200 ( if one separates money well) or less with a location with great club /mongering scene versus paying hundreds more (for sure, not possiblity) to a location not as suited for English speakers, mongering scene not setup for tourists and many of those area are less safe, why consider?

I don't think Brazil or Columbia is escaping risk, rather it is taking more on. Getting robbed is only one of the problems there. Getting drugged with wrong dosing is a major problem as well.

In long, I don't think considering paying hundreds of more dollars for to an area not tailored to tourists in a red light district (Mexico City or Guadalajara) saves any money or increases clubbing experience specifically to Latin America.
