Ya Know, He’s Not Wrong

In a recent interview, Uncle Ted said

“The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame should genuflect to Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters [and] the Funk Brothers… How dare you put Grandmaster Flash, ABBA and Madonna in that?”

Yeah I remember Madonna being a real head scratcher.

Who gets inducted as members of various bands is also all over the place. There's plenty of bands that the "best" breakthrough lineup was not the one that stuck together 20 years.

I agree but I think the Rock and Roll sees the writing on the wall that rock is dead. A couple decades from now we’ll talk about Rock like we talk about Jazz now.

Apparently it's very hard to find actual new rock bands to sign. The kids who would have scraped together bands with their classmates now just go on SoundCloud and either play all the instruments themselves or use electronics.

I don't automatically dislike newer music but it does seem to appear that music becomes more popular from an artists looks than musical talent.

if you look closely at the rock n roll hall of fame inductees you'll realize that's it's not really a rock n roll hall of fame. if anything it should be renamed as the all time pop music hall of fame.

a real rock n roll hall of fame that's true to the core would in no way have madonna inducted before deep purple, metallica, heart, rush, kiss, pat benatar and journey. not to diminish what's she's done in her career as she is the undisputed queen of pop. but aah no she shouldn't have even been considered for a nomination in the first place.

if madonna and whitney houston (thanks to clive davis?) are in the hall then why isn't mariah carey? beyonce might get the nod within the next 3 years.

Madonna, Jay-z and Whitney Houston being in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is like Derek Jeter, Wayne Gretzky and Larry Byrd being elected to the Football Hall of Fame.

I agree with the comments above from rattdog and misterorange.

If it’s the rock and roll hall of fame - the artists mentioned (Madonna, Whitney Houston, etc) aren’t rock artists.

It’s really the popular music hall of fame. I don’t know if rock and roll hall of fame just sounds better?

@JamesSD

I think what rattdog was saying is that Madonna got in BEFORE the others he mentioned above.

For example Jon Lord, co-founder of Deep Purple, didn't even get to enjoy it because he died of cancer at age 71, four years before Deep Purple was inducted. And dumb-ass Madonna was inducted four years before Lord passed away.

The music business has changed so much it’ll never be like it was in the 60’s thru the 90’s. The days of great new rock bands and songs are over.

Just get used to listening to music from 20-30 years ago.

If you want great new rock listen to Octane.

True that it is a shrinking segment of the market.

The Hall (as we call it) should just be "The Music Hall of Fame".

@misterorange - Chris Squire from Yes died before they were inducted as well.

i pose this question: does anybody believe nugent is worthy of a rock n roll hall of fame induction?

i say yes. it would be fucking epic too. ride out on a buffalo with an indian head dress on and then finish his set off by shooting an arrow at an electric guitar.

Yeah it is the "Non-Country Music of the last 60 years HOF"

I cringe when I hear the presenter justify why groups like ABBA are "rock"

"Yeah listen to the guitar lick on that song! They are ROCKERS, baby!!"

If anyone questions Ted Nugent’s resume - I recommend listening to Wang Dang Sweet Poontang! A rock song unapologetically written about pussy? This pussy loving, guitar great, deserves admission!

I agree with GoldmongerATL too.

I would respect those presenters more if they just scratched their head and said “We don’t understand this one either!”

It's not about Rock music and it's not about Fame either. Who are most of those people?

Doesn't seem to about success either because quite a few in there have just a few successful albums or songs.

I'll question his resume. If I go into my backyard with a bongo and start screaming "I love pussy, pussy pussy, pussy pussy, pussy!!!" does that make me rock star enough to have an opinion on the hall of fame?

Whatever else he sung about, he never took the time and energy and put in the work to actually make his music sound good. And spends a lot of time berating people who did. Pretty much anything he every recorded solo sounds like shit. Listening to it now is like a porno with the only shit in focus is the guy's ass. When I was a kid in the 70's, it was kinda cool just cause it was rock, but I never want to hear it again...

His best work (only work that I can stand) was with Damn Yankees, when he had others to cover for him. Was watching a jam session with Tommy Shaw and between takes they were chatting and telling stories, someone asked if he had any good stories of Ted, he just shook his head and replied he won't go there...

If you want to listen to songs about pussy, just because they are about pussy? that's like 2,000,000 rap song recorded last year. Where the fuck have you been?
