AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - Augusta strip clubs will now have to make a decision: get rid of either of their adult entertainers or their alcohol license.
After a ruling by Judge J. Randal Hall of the United States District Court Southern District of Georgia, the clubs will now have to choose either to stay open and not serve alcohol, or stop adult entertainment so they can carry an alcohol license.
Read the full ruling below:
The City of Augusta's adult entertainment ordinance allowed already-existing establishments to stay open. However, ownership of those establishments couldn't be transferred to a new owner. So when Discotheque owner James "Whitey" Lester died in April 2019 and left ownership of his strip club to his children, it violated the city's ordinance. The new owners of the Discotheque filed a lawsuit against the city to try to keep the businesses' doors open.
"Judge ruled in our favor so now we're in the process of determining the next course of action to take in order to to work with them and also be a good neighbor," said Augusta Commissioner Dennis Williams.
With this new ruling, the strip club's owners will have to make the decision of whether to carry adult entertainment or alcohol.

Personally, I could care less if a club has alcohol available or not but I know it matters to a lot of customers and dancers. I also know a lot of clubs make a large percent of their income from alcohol sales.
