Quantum Entanglement is semi-hype, but potentially semi-real. Encryption and security, but not faster than light speed communications, because of the no cloning theorem.

The Strangest Man: The Hidden Life of Paul Dirac, Mystic of the Atom

Father spoke to him in German or English at the breakfast table, while the mother spoke to him in French. Paul grew up believing that men and women spoke different languages.

Usually undergrads only deal with the Schrodinger Equations. But Dirac equation by far the more complete form.

Berkeley Physics Couse

This is a five part course. It is an interesting ambitious project. They treat the material in a different order.

Usually such texts go to mechanical waves right after static mechanics, and then to electromagnetism, and then to relativity.

This series goes from static mechanics all the way to special relativity in the first volume. Next is electromagnetism. next is waves, including electromagnetic and optics. Then quantum mechanics and then statistical thermo-dynamics.

I would say that it is a beautiful series to study from, but I would not recommend trying to learn from this series originally. The organization does make it more difficult.

And it uses these cgs units, which make things strange, especially the electrical units. So you have to review all of this stuff, and have already understood it, before you can proceed.

I like everything Ilya Prigogine has written. But this is more like a standard text book. If you are not accustomed to it, then non-equilibrium thermodynamics and dissipation structures is a real push.

Quantum Entanglement and High Energy Particle Physics are beyond what is used in technology. But quantum mechanics is still the basis of 20th Century Chemistry, as it is material science and as it is solid state physics. And today people are not only interested in semi-conductor electronics, they are also interested in additional ways of making high strength magnets.

Really interesting book to read:

Excellent book for moving from 19th Century to 20th Century Physics. Lays it out historically, which is really the only way to understand it.

Little dealing with high energy particle physics, but in industrial applications one does not need that.

That Paul Tipler book is real old. But it can be gotten out of libraries, and you can get copies other ways than by paying the high used prices Amazon lists.

If you are teaching yourself, you don't have to have the newest books, but it helps to have multiple books, and written in different eras.

Here is something maybe a bit newer which looks similar, though this one I have not read:

amazon.com

Using their Look Inside, this does seem similar to Tipler, though maybe a bit more solid state and hence industry oriented.

In my organization we will be deploying some special tecniques for beating the prices on the nearly new books too.

And there are still newer books than this. Helps to have multiple authors to go with.

Most of the core course text books are written to a formula. So they are pretty much the same.

I like:

But Karen Timberlake has done some studies in how to visually present info:

But especially for a self study book, or a back up book, I like this:

Does a better job of explaining the quantum mechanics which underlie modern chemistry. With out this it makes little sense, always to me seemed more like alchemy.

Quantum Entanglement and High Energy Particle Physics are beyond industrial uses, and I don't see this changing soon.

But more and more numerical analysis to try and predict solid state properties, not just for semi-conductor electronics, but also optical and magnetic properties.

A lot of trying to make solid state physics computations comes down to numerical analysis methods, particularly because there is no analytic solution to a multiple electron problem if you want to include electron to electron interactions.

So with very high power computers, array processor computers, and with fabrication techniques which allow multiple atom species solids, and interests in the highest of frequencies and interests in high strength magnets and interests in optical properties, there is some very advance work going on. And to good results for angular momentum in d and f orbitals, one has to consider relativistic effects.

One method often used to do this had been Linear Combination of Atomic Orbitals,
idc-online.com

And this is talked about in Out of the Crystal Maze, listed above.

Where it came from was Stanford, Walter Harrison.

Theoretical alchemy : modeling matter / Walter Harrison (2010)

Harrison has actually published a large number of books, one reprinted by Dover. But there is also new work, higher power computational methods. But start with "Out of the Crystal Maze", to get a historical overview.

So today many universities will have interdepartmental projects based on array processor simulations to try and get superior semi-conductor, optical, or magnetic properties, and considering electron-electron interactions. And this is no small task!

I don't think Quantum Entanglement has much in the way of real applications.

But one thing which does delimit it is Bell's Theorem

This guy in Vienna is one of the leaders in trying to use Entanglement to seed protected messages. But he may be just a showman.

One of the things which destroys most of this is the No Cloning Theorem. You cannot just read a quantum state for something without altering it yourself.

For me, I think this is a far as I want to go. Lots of important things to do with quantum mechanics, but I don't see entanglement as one of them.
