No name has been revealed yet for the Seattle expansion franchise, which is to begin play during the 2021-2022 season.
This puts the NHL at 32 teams, which is the same as the NFL. The NBA and MLB each have 30 franchises. Being that the NHL is the least popular of the 4 leagues, it seems strange that they are the league that has had recent expansion teams and not the other leagues.
Fun fact: In 1917, the Seattle Metropolitans became the first team based in an American city to win the Stanley Cup
