A man is in critical condition after he was shot early Sunday by a security guard of a Northeast Side strip club, San Antonio Police say.

Police say the incident began around 3:30 a.m. at Spice Gentlemans Club, 9504 Perrin Beitel Road, when patrons who claim they were robbed in the parking lot reported the man they suspected as their assailant to the club's security guard.

The security guard approached the man, who was still on the property, and an argument ensued. The suspect pulled a gun but then ran to an apartment complex across the street, police said.

San Antonio police say a security guard at a strip club shot a man he thought had robbed patrons after that man pulled a gun on the guard Sunday morning, May 27, 2018.

The security guard ran after the suspect and caught him in the complex and that is when police say the other man pointed a gun at the security guard. The security guard then pulled his own gun and fired several shots, hitting the man police said.

The man was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.

Police continue to investigate and say the security guard is cooperating with officers. Police did not say if they plan on arresting or charging the man, or the guard.

Spice has been having some tough times, and is only open a few nights a weeks now as a BYOB after hours joint. It's got some rough areas right around it, but is also just across the highway from one of the nicer clubs in town. If people are getting robbed and shot there now, time to start the countdown clock.
