Attorney General Matt Denn filed a complaint with the Delaware Superior Court Thursday to close down the Gold Club, calling it a "criminal nuisance property.
In the complaint, Denn said there have been several shootings, vehicle thefts, drugs, assaults, and stabbings at the club, located at 1031 South Market Street--near the city/county line. He said the club has long been marred by shootings in August 2012, March 2014, May 2014, and September 2015.
Denn pointed to the the latest murder outside the strip club that happened Sunday, November 15, 2015, as further evidence for the club's immediate closure.
"Police have been called to the Gold Club at least 237 times in the last four years," said Denn in a written statement. "Shutting the doors of a business which consistently brings crime, drugs, and violence to the area is in the interest of public safety."
The club is owned by Michael Rose, who also owns the Kent Manor Inn and PML Clubs, Inc., according to the attorney general's office.
Last year, the city and the attorney general's office successfully shutdown the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club on Governor Printz Boulevard under similar complaints.
