Salem, OR 2AMer

A man was killed and three other people were wounded early Saturday in a shooting at the Stars Cabaret near Market Street and Hawthorne Avenue NE, Salem police said.

The homicide marked the second fatal shooting at a Salem strip club this month.

Police identified the dead man as 47-year-old Darryl Patrick Jones of Salem. Jones died at Salem Hospital.

The three people who were wounded suffered non-life threatening injuries and were being treated at Salem Hospital, said Lt. Dave Okada, a spokesman for the Salem Police Department. Their identities were being withheld for their safety, Okada said.

According to a press release issued by Okada, officers were called to Stars Cabaret at 1550 Weston Court NE about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, July 18, on reports of shots fired.

Officers arrived to find four victims who had been shot.

No arrests have been made, but around 10 a.m. Saturday police said they were seeking a Hispanic man who was described as in his 20s or 30s, stocky and bald.

At the time of the shooting, the nightclub was busy and full of patrons and employees, Okada said. Following the shooting, detectives worked through the night. They believe the shooting was not random and appeared to be related to an altercation that involved one of the injured victims.

Stars Cabaret owner Jeff Struhar declined to comment on the details of the shooting, but in a telephone interview Saturday morning he said the club was offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. In a later interview, that offer was rescinded. An employee who answered the phone later said Stars Cabaret would not be open Saturday.
