Costa Rican clubs anyone?

I am planning a trip to Costa Rica and have been looking at a few of the reviews. One gentleman, clover seems to be down there a lot and knows the scene. Unfortunately he keeps refering to "high for CR standards" and I don't know what that is. I want to try one or two places but I only want to carry cash. Anyone have an idea on what a typical CR night should cost and how much ladies drinks might go for in CR, etc.
