TAMPA — A shooting between two cars that began at an Ybor City strip club early Tuesday morning ended when the driver of one vehicle rammed into the other, sending the shooter fleeing on foot, according to police.
The bizarre turn of events happened about 2:20 a.m., beginning in the parking lot of Dreams Gentlemen's Club at 4218 E Seventh Ave., Tampa police said. Officers arrived at that time to investigate a report of shots having been fired. Witnesses in the area told them that two cars had just fled the parking lot at a high rate of speed as one driver tried to shoot the other, police said.
About the same time, officers learned that the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding toward a red Infiniti in the area of N 40th Street and E Chelsea Avenue, police said. The Jeep driver was reported to be firing a gun at the Infiniti.
Just before officers were able to catch up, the Infiniti driver rammed into the Jeep, which toppled over and slammed into a building at 3802 N 40th St., police said. The Jeep driver wriggled out of the car and fled on foot.
The Infiniti driver was not injured, but he showed officers a bullet hole that had pierced the door of his car.
Police were still working early Tuesday morning to figure out what happened. Further details, including the names of the two drivers, were not immediately available
