LANSING —A Macomb County sheriff's deputy, a probationer, is accused of creating fraudulent reports to help an employee of the Traffic Light gentleman's club in Mt. Clemens illegally pass court-ordered breathalyzer tests.
Novi's 52-1 District Court in March of 2011 ordered Trista Leigh-Ann Caswell, 28, of New Baltimore to submit to in-home breathalyzer tests after she was found guilty of a disorderly person charge.

According to Schuette's office, after Caswell missed multiple tests and failed one, met Macomb County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph A. Cada, 45, of Chesterfield at the Traffic Light "to concoct a scheme to avoid future tests."

Cada and Caswell filed "fraudulent statements attesting that Caswell passed five breathalyzer tests administered by Cada," a release from Schuette's office says. "Five fraudulent statements bearing the insignia of the Macomb County sheriff's Department were allegedly drafted and signed by Cada.

Cada recorded a blood-alcohol level of .000 and submitted the forms to the court in Oct. of 2012.

District Court Judge Rrobert Bondy called Cada to court to attest to the filings on Nov. 6, 2012, at which time he admitted they were fraudulent.

Bondy sentenced Caswell to 90 days for violating parole. Cada, a 24-year Macomb County employee, was suspended without pay on Dec. 24.

Subsequently, a charge each of obstruction of justice, which carries up to five years in prison, was issued against the pair.

Cada turned himself in Wednesday and has been released on a $10,000 bond. Arrangements are being made for Caswell to turn herself in.

MLive has asked for the current status of Cada's employment with the Macomb County Sheriff's Department but had not received a response as of Wednesday afternoon.

MLive attempted to reach Caswell by phone at the Traffic Light and was told she no longer works there.
