The state has suspended the license of an emergency medical technician from Pierce County who is accused of fondling a woman just after she had surgery.
State regulators say Mark W. Tosland contact the woman after she was released from the hospital. He continued to do so even after the woman she asked him to stop. He persisted until her mother intervened.
He can't work as EMT pending a hearing. He has 20 days to respond.
The state Health Department says Tosland was an EMT for Rural Metro Ambulance, private company, in Tacoma.
On June 1, 2010, he was part of crew that took the woman to Tacoma General Hospital for back surgery. He asked for her cell phone number and asked whether he could call her. She agreed.
After surgery and as the woman was still mildly sedated, Tosland kissed the woman, lifted up her hospital gown, rubbed her breasts and tried to touch her vagina, the state says in disciplinary documents.
On Jan. 1, 2010, Tosland was part of a crew that took another woman to Tacoma General. Three months after that, he entered into a sexual relationship with her, the state says.
After their relationship ended, he continued to contact the woman by text message and telephone, asking for sexual intercourse and oral sex, the state says in disciplinary documents.
