Dear Diary,
Today marks 30 days since going full time and returning after a year long hiatus. I’ve landed, somewhere in between a nice strip club and a divey hole in the wall, surrounded by foreigners with fake titties and aptitudes for doing extra delectable things in the back rooms. The moving lights are obnoxiously bright and smack me in the face every so often and the music is so loud that I’ve purchased a pair of earplugs to protect my hearing. The club often smells like methane gas and dirty coochie, it always has me sniffing my own panties and pits to make sure it’s not me. It’s incredibly overstimulating and not the best place to be, but don’t worry, the softest spot in the club is by the bar, in the corner with your back to the wall. The dancing lights don’t reach far enough, the nearest speaker is 10ft away, and it is perfect people watching territory—my little safe space that I retreat to when I need a break from it all.
I got frustrated the other night. Maybe due to the lack of sleep during my transition to night shift, maybe due to how bad this week has been compared to my first week back. Regardless, I went off about my frustration with the lack of paying and participating customers to another entertainer.
This past Saturday, the club was filled with folks who weren’t paying or playing. There were entertainers that just walked around the pole and rolled their hips while snapping their gum between their teeth. The floor, was boring, nobody throwing money or interacting with dancers. The stage, was boring, girls weren’t dancing or doing anything on the pole. Even the normal lap dance area was boring. Any time I’d go back, it was lame, subpar, half-assed lap dances being given. I’m frustrated by the low effort, boring and dare I say greedy, entertainers that work this club… the lack of effort or care is hurting the industry, terribly so.
I’m frustrated… I’m frustrated because I love my job and I want people to enjoy their strip club experience.
I work hard, every night I step foot in the club. I dance til I sweat. I walk til my feet hurt. I practice my pole moves and do my best to put on a show. I entertain any and every person that crosses my path to the absolute best of my ability. I take major pride in my ability to entertain. I want people to return to my little nighttime utopia of euphoria and debauchery.
But unfortunately, patrons are expecting more and trying to avoid paying for it. Dancers are doing the least or the absolute most whilst also making patrons extremely uncomfortable with pressure to spend large amounts of money, so much so that patrons don’t want to return.
Maybe this is just the club I’ve landed in, but I truly hope not.
I’m manifesting a club filled with a diverse mixture of beautiful and incredibly talented women with customers who value a fun and/or frivolous night out over sexual favors.
This was the last club I worked at briefly, before taking my hiatus, and to see the downturn in customer quality is disheartening. But, tomorrow is a new day and the beginning of another month in this wild wild industry. Interestingly, despite my frustrations, I’m still excited to continue navigating this ever changing, ever evolving, seemingly alternate reality space that I’m so grateful to call, “work”.
Til next time and with love, Infinity 💋
