The end of strip clubs?

The recent shutting down of sites like backpage and craigslist will probably have negative unintended consequences for the strip club industry. These negative effects are probably not seen by the government bureaucrats who made the decision to close these sites. When individuals make a decision, any negative consequences tend to fall on them. This causes them to be more cautious and think things through more. When a government official makes a bad decision, they often suffer no bad effects and any bad effects fall on others who had no control over the decision made. I foresee an immediate increase in strip club business as more guys and women go to clubs to arrange sex either inside or outside the club. The strippers in the club who aren't interested in that will face more unwanted propositions of that nature and that will have a negative effect on their work environment. It may also drive away customers who don't want to be around illegal activity, so many of the non-extras girls will lose customers. Rather than repeal the website ban, government officials will then try to close down strip clubs to stop the increased sexual activity there. This will then force more girls into street prostitution. Here they will have a lower class of customer, less chances to screen customers, and the requirement to meet customers in less safe locations. More neighborhoods will have to deal with the street corner hooker. A number of strippers get their jobs so they can leave abusive relationships or low paid jobs and closing the clubs will force them back into those relationships and those jobs. So the long term effect of government intervention will be to make these women less safe and poorer. The taxpayer will be on the hook for paying law enforcement to close the current clubs and keep underground clubs from popping up. The government officials and their law enforcement lackeys will actually benefit as they draw government paychecks to do all this. The busybody types who get pleasure out of running other people's lives will also enjoy seeing the politicians they elected enforcing their whims while ignoring the increased misery that results.
