Alone among El Paso strip clubs, Red Parrot aspires to be a big time club. It is the only one to bring in feature acts and puts on a lot of special events. It is also the only one to attempt to build an online presence - it now regularly posts slick videos shot in the club on its MySpace page.

I'm not sure how all of this is working. The last time I was there - last Friday when Nautica Thorn was the featured act - there were a lot of people but there definitely wasn't a full house. I guess it's paying off, because the club shows no sign of pulling back from this approach.

The club is not really located in El Paso; it's actually just east of town off of the Horizon City exit on I-10. It doesn't look that much from the outside. You walk in to a small reception area. There's a desk where someone will take your money (regularly $10, up to $15 to $20 when there's a feature act) along with an ATM, vending machines and the men's bathroom. After you pay, you walk into the main area which has a large warehouse feel. Directly in front of you will be a T-shaped stage. Past that, you'll go upstairs to the $20 VIP area. To the right is a bar, pool tables and a huge large screen TV.
