Note: From the street there are two clubs with Tropical in the name between two blocks. If walking from the Chicago, do not walk toward the one away from Adelita's (the first one you'll see to the left) unless you're seeking out trouble. It'll look closed anyway.
This is the "other" club on the block with Adelita's and Hong Kong down in TJ. Interesting little place. Not sure what the appeal is for non locals other than a challenge. I'd seen a couple of very positive reviews, so I said what the heck since I was going to be in the neighborhood. Here's the spin I'm going to put on it. If you're from North of the border and don't need to work on your Espanol, you can skip. If you happen to speak Spanish and have time to kill and some patience, this could be the place for you. If you're just passing through and are looking for the action, that would be across the street at either AB or HK. As in other reviews, the girls aren't bad but have you seen the ones across the street? There's a small dance floor (8x10 give or take) that is the centerpiece of the club.
From the entry way you'll see a typical looking wooden bar lined with girls. You'll also see a bunch of little diner style tables and booths that wrap around to the right toward the back. There are a bunch of chairs situated around the room, many of them with girls chatting amongst themselves or sending text messages. It's a bit of a cross between a high school dance and perpetual holiday party. The DJ will chat about various things as he walks the floor. Saw a dance contest. Saw people chatting in booths. Definitely a more social atmosphere than the other clubs on the block if in fact you're looking to socialize.
