Thought I'd walked into a hip-hop...
Thought I'd walked into a hip-hop video once the doors parted on a Friday night. That's not a slight.
Girls everywhere. Patrons everywhere. BYOL everywhere. The place was electric, and I was instantly impressed. Which almost never happens. When I wrote about Harlem Knights, I complained about people being all over the place and overcrowding. I'd say there was about the same amount of spacing here, but there weren't people on top of each other like at HK. It was like watching a well oiled machine, and for a minute I just sat and watched trying to take it all in. The girls were stacked beyond stacked. Mainly black and latina. Hip-hop video. Yeah, we covered that already. Dancers were drinking and dancing table side just because they were into the music. Guys were crowded around the main stage and tipping like crazy, the dancers up front were going all out, and there were several dancers up on smaller stages along the mirrored back wall of the club also dancing full nude (that's where I headed). If this is another club that got smacked by the Houston bikini brigade it's beyond tragic. Show Palace and other places keep their ratings as I gave them late Summer, since I saw the clubs in town the way they were meant to be.
Seats were hard to come by but opened up at random, kind of like musical chairs. Unlike a lot of places, most guys didn't seem to care that unknown people were filtering in and out of their space. They were focused on what they were doing, and if you weren't screwing with them they weren't screwing with you. That's a good thing. Found out this place was open ridiculously late (5AM) that night, so I made a mental note to swing back through if I didn't find anything better. The rundown I got from Omar (on staff there) was that the dances were whatever you wanted them to be. Just tip well and don't piss off the bouncers. Polite young man. The big beefy white guy that kept harassing me about not leaning against the rear stage (which for him translated into not standing within six inches of it) not so much. Another thing I liked about the place was the columnar design on the main stage. This town has at least three good clubs that have that type of theme, and I for one appreciate a little creativity in the layout. Doesn't look like much from the outside and my foot splashed into a huge puddle in the non-paved rear parking lot, but no place is perfect.
