CLNJ Revisited
Over a year ago, a wrote a review about CLNJ entitled: “Try as I Might, I Juust Can’t Like This Place”. I’ve been here quite a few times since, and now consider that judgment to be a bit too harsh. In terms of its physical plant, talent quality, and overall vibe, CLNJ doesn’t hold a cancel to its stepsister namesake 15-20 minutes and a $6 bridge toll way in Phila, or any of the other mainstream Phila clubs, but it has its positive aspects. Specifically, at least during the dayshift (none of my visits were after 8 pm, and several were actually early to mid-afternoon), there’s a decent, although by no means guaranteed, shot at extras, up to and including FS, with a mid-level dancer at a reasonable, but not bargain-basement price point.
Club is on US 130 North in Gloucester City, just off the 130N exit ramp on the Walt Whitman Bridge. The road curves there, so keep an eye out for the Bottle Stop liquor store. If headed southbound on 130, you’ll see the club on the left, and there’s a protected left turn at a light just past the club.
Free and generally ample parking. You’ll walk through an unattended (at least during daytime) and sometimes inoperative metal detector. U-shaped bar surrounding main stage ahead and to the left. Restrooms along back wall. Not lavish but serviceable. Along right wall is the DJ booth and stairs to the lower level where the LD and VIP booths are.
To the immediate left is a dark seating area with a small, floor level stage in the left front corner, which I’ve never seen in use. Doorway out the left side to a tended smoking area.
Place looks a little beat, but you shouldn’t go to a SC in South Jersey for the décor or amenities. It can also be dead as a doornail . I’ve stopped in on a couple occasions where there wasn’t a single human being in sight, not even a bartender. It’s like they shut to place down but forgot to lock the door and turn off the lights and music. Even at 6 pm, when you think there would be an after work crowd, there may only 2-3 dancers in sight, and maybe an equal number of patrons. Dancers sit and drink with the seeming regulars, but if you make eye contact and smile, they have no hesitation to get up and come see you if they smell money in the air. Drink prices are reasonable.
Mostly white dancers with a mix of Latinas and AA. A few cute ones, most are adequate, and some really fat ones. There was an young Asian spinner who I saw a few times, but haven’t seen her lately. Doesn’t seem like they screen out anybody, and the cute ones must work here only to save the bridge toll.
Been a while since I’ve done a standard LD here. I think they run $25 per. Upholstered benches in a common room.
VIPs are in little banquettes with walls on two sides and a semi-sheer curtain in front .Never had staff walk into the VIP area, but I tip the guy downstairs who takes the $ ($130 for 15 minutes) just to be safe. For some reason, the cost for 30 minutes is more than twice the 15 minute rate, but I don’t know why anybody would spend more than 15 minutes.
The dancers I’ve experienced FS with expected tips ranging from $200-300. Again, no sure thing. I had a newbie who bragged she had a condom with her, but acted shocked when I offered $300 (the most I’ve ever paid here) , and wouldn’t even counter my offer. Too bad, because she would have been the cutest one I ever did it with there. If I ever see her there again, I’m going to ask if she still has the condom, and see if she’s experienced a reality check on market rates.
BTW, it can’t hurt to bring your own condom. I missed an opportunity with a dancer I had been with a few times because she had apparently run out towards the end of a busy shift.
Bottom line, this is likely not the kind of place you are going to while away time taking in the ambience and scenery, but if you are mission-focused, it can serve a purpose.
