Hah. Just took another look...

Hah. Just took another look at the club entry and apparently this is one of those nutjob clubs only open a few days a week. They're all over NC. But since I already wrote out this rant I'd hate to see it go to waste...Got to Sid's a little about half past midnight. It was closed for the night. Not going to say the place is out of business, but I'll say that I was in this middle of nowhere town with three clubs and two of the three were closed at a ridiculously early time. Which brings me to a little rant that fits in nicely with Sid and The Playground (they might even be the same club because the big curvy sign above the door said Playground and the smaller text on the door said Sid's). In any case I didn't hear any music blasting, the tell tale sign a club is nearby.

Since we don't have a way to rate cities and states, this is as good a place as any. What is it about NC clubs not operating according to their set hours? Clubs staying open later than listed is one thing, but arbitrarily oepning and closing whenever they feel like it is just plain annoying to business types used to places actually being open for business during their posted hours. While in Durham I barely made it to the three clubs in the area because two seemed to open when the stars and birds told them to and the third had the wrong address listed on TUSCL. Different rant there. It's coming, too. Can only assume that the club had recently closed because there were still cars in the parking lot (nothing else looked open in the little strip mall) and people in parked cars were watching me walk up to the club and wonder why the hell I drove to Goldsboro in the first place.

Seriously though, between random days and times and just about every club in the state carding people willy nilly and asking for "memberships" this is probably not the state you want to pick for a border to border tour. There should be some rule where if an out of state license shows up, just charge a cover, give the card back and wish the patron a good night. Some clubs had the sense to do that, far too many of them didn't. I would like to thank Sid's for providing this opportunity for genuine frustration and spite. If Teaser's down the road is any indication of club quality in Goldsboro this place is a dive, anyway. Didn't look so great from what I could see since it is basically just a strip mall storefront, and was in a not so great part of town (sure, how many clubs ARE in a good part of town but still). At least Doll's Palace on the way back North knew how to tell time (the place would have even stayed open) and redeemed the trip a bit.
