I. Am. Retired. After being...
I. Am. Retired. After being semi-retired from the SC tour for a while, haven't really had the occasion to post anything from more recent visits. Had a pretty surreal trip through Providence not too long ago that needs to get written up, but not before a little "tail" about my trip to TJ. The last few visits to SD got me curious about checking out Adelita's. Plus its long run at the top of the TUSCL list put it on my to do list. The border crossing was basically what held me up to this point. But, as a friendly local would say to me later on just after he picked up a round of Coronas, "you only live once". If you do an online search, chances are you'll find a few good write ups on the ins and outs of getting back and forth from TJ to SD. They made it sound easy and it was. After sitting in rush hour traffic on I-5, I parked at the last U.S. exit and hot footed it across. BTW - The going rate is $5 for a cab to the club. I spent $6 because I always like to tip. So, about
the club. I don't typically like bright clubs, but since this place and its menu are about a subtle as a train wreck it doesn't matter that the club is brighter than a light show. I went on a Tuesday afternoon, sometime around 6-ish. Happy hour seems like a decent time to show up. So I walk in through the curtains and take a few steps to the left (there are booths along the walls all the way around and a second ring about five feet in. I wound up standing next to an empty booth and a server motioned for me to grab a seat. $3.50 later I had a beer in hand, again with a $1 tip because it's habit. One thing to note, I read in other reviews about needing to keep an eye out on change. I personally had no issues whatsoever with getting correct change or switching dollars around. It could be because I armed myself with an army of small bills $10s and $5s for the little things since I had a heads up about funny counting practices, but when I had to pay with bigger bills later on
there were no issues and I easily got change for a $20 when requested (with the specific breakdown I asked for). The patrons seemed to be mainly U.S., and except for the fact I couldn't carry on much of a conversation with the locals (or the girls) it was really no different than a typical mid-scale U.S. club. There was dancing on the main stage, and yes the girls did strip. Once or twice a guy got up there with a girl and she put on a show for him. There was also the occasion where the DJ/emcee would walk out there and talk about something (naturally I didn't follow) while a hottie bounced around him. It kind of reminded me of Telemundo with all the hopping about and the jokes. But I don't take any issues with another culture's humor and assume it's just the style of the show. Depending on the dancer, they could go to the edge of the stage or just off to the nearest booths and rub around on patrons. Kind of like table dancing clubs but no mini-laps. Not every gal was a
looker, but enough were to make it worth the trip. There are plasmas mounted along the walls that seem to show up every three booths, and you might think people are staring at you if you happen to be sitting near one. In my case, I was sitting under the Spurs-Jazz playoff game but my attention was on a model quality gal in typical stripper heels and a bodytight green dress. First time for everything, right? Elena made a second. Double TKO. Would I come out of retirement for a rematch? Only if she brings a friend...
