I've been on the fence about whether or not to write a review about my last visit to the place. This was back around April. After the first ten minutes I was wondering how in the world I ended up in such a mess. For about the first five feet in the door things seemed normal. Gave the doorman a few bucks for the cover and drink tickets, then walked in. A few steps later it hit me. What a horrific smell I'd discovered. Mold. Mildew. Whatever. Disgusting. And it was not subtle at all. I was a split second away from walking up front and asking for my money back (note to clubs, the fact your place smells like a musty basement is something you should warn people about before you take their money). It wasn't Broadway Showgirls men's room foul, but it was close. Someone with a mold allergy would have been carried out, basically. Then I look around and see almost no one, with only one stage is going and unfortunately the gal on it wasn't inspiring my interest. The stage was the one in the back with the DJ peekaboo window behind it in the mirrored glass. At least that's the one with the best view. So I take a seat, not like I had anything much to do besides sit around at the hotel that time of night. Not worth the hassle of heading to downtown NYC from there. Anyhow, for those who don't remember there was a ridiculous amount of rain in NY/NJ around that time and floods were all over. That's in hindsight. When I was sitting there, the first thing out of my mouth was to ask if they had a flood or something. Got a good laugh when, duh, if it's flooding all over then it probably flooded that place, too. It's like the idiot shopper in the supermarket asking for something right in front of a big sign for it. A side door was propped open so it was little better nearer to the stage. The orange juice I ordered was a bit of a funny color and I didn't drink it after a sip (btw - I've been to clubs all over in all kinds of light, I can tell if something looks off...the server was friendly, but still she could've offered me another drink). The visit rating is a high 6, though, and here's why. The dancers (and some of the lookers were around) got up and did their sets like it was a full house. The DJ there usually isn't all that chatty, but he was entertaining enough in between the tunes. Girls worked the floor and some sat and talked for a while (something I hadn't seen too much of on prior visits). When I did finally decide on a dance, it was with a young brunette who was in her first month at the time. Perfect face and all natural body. Can't remember her name, but she was down to earth friendly and chatty and gave a pretty good lap. Very responsive. Surely vague, but hey it was a while ago. Sat for more laps than I'd planned, especially with the little silky drape thing. I can't remember the last time I'd been stuck with one of those before that, but I overlooked it since she was clearly a rookie and exceeding expectations. Ratings can't go higher than a 6 because they weren't up front about the flooding, but the club gets kudos for still putting on a reasonable show under the circumstances. It'll get another look when I'm back in town.
