sinclair's Review

I went to Peppermints Lounge on a Monday around 18:30. The building is located close to Louisiana Highway 182, and there is only enough space out front to park five or six vehicles without boxing them in. Walking in, there was no cover charge. The stage is on the left. It has one pole that is about six feet tall and is surrounded by a tipping counter. There are six padded black chairs against the right wall for lap dances. The bar is along the back wall. The manager and bartender was a seventy-something Asian lady named Lilly. I asked for a Sincweiser, but my beer of choice was not served here. I settled for a Sinc Light. The beer was $5. There is a pool table and an ATM in the back right corner. There were cutouts of Elvis Presley, John Wayne, and Marilyn Monroe on the walls. Restaurant booths along the front wall made me wonder if this place was once a bar and grill in a previous life. The washroom was a disaster. The urinal was taped off as ‘out of order’, so you had to use the regular toilet to piss in. The regular toilet was also broken because it wouldn’t flush. There was also no soap to wash your hands.

The manager said she had three dancers, but they only come in when they want to. She tried calling them up to see if they would come in. It seemed like one got sent to rehab, and the other two let the call go to voicemail. I departed for my hotel when I learned there would be no dancers coming in. Lap dances are $40 per song, and there is no privacy. The throne chairs upon which lap dances are done have their backs to the right wall and face inwards towards the rest of the club.

The stretch of Louisiana Highway 182 between Morgan City and Amelia used to have three or four strip clubs, but all of them have now closed down except for Peppermints Lounge. These strip clubs used to cater to shipyard and petroleum industry workers. It is best to call Peppermints Lounge ahead of time to see if any dancers are working before visiting the club.
