Spirit is bankrupt but flight club wont break my spirit!
I stopped in at The Velvet Unicorn this past Wednesday afternoon after work. I’ve driven by a few times but never made the stop until now. Figured I’d check it out and see if the midweek crowd had anything worthwhile going on. First heads-up: valet is mandatory and costs $15 — no self-park option unless you want to leave your car three blocks away and walk. A bit annoying, especially for a daytime visit when the lot is barely full. Inside, the club is clean, dimly lit, and the staff was polite enough. The cover charge was $20, and right away they asked me to remove my hat — not a huge deal, but something to note if you're coming straight from work or not looking your best.
The place wasn’t crowded. Maybe a dozen patrons total, mostly spread out in small groups or flying solo like me. A few women were working the floor, but nothing too aggressive. Most of the energy seemed centered around the regulars — you could tell who they were by the way the dancers greeted them with hugs and sat down without hesitation. I grabbed a small table near the stage and ordered a Red Bull, which set me back $10. Drinks here are definitely on the pricey side, even non-alcoholic, and from what I could tell, cocktails start at $15+. Not shocking for this type of venue, but it adds up quick. Music was a decent mix of hip-hop and R&B, not too loud, and the stage rotation was consistent — a new girl every 10–15 minutes.
One of the dancers, a petite blonde — classic spinner type, maybe mid-20s — caught my attention with her stage set. She had solid rhythm, nothing overly acrobatic, but a confident presence. I tipped well during her set and made it clear I was interested in some private time. She came over after finishing up and we talked for a minute. No pressure, pretty straightforward about options and pricing. VIP rooms were available, with house fees depending on how long you want — she quoted me $350 for a half hour, which she described as "no restrictions, full experience." I asked a few questions to clarify what that really meant, and she was clear without being crude: everything on the menu, covered, and mutual respect expected.
