A Mixed Night

It had been about a year since the last time I was at Dream Girls. Despite the money I spent and what groping there was, it was still a very unsatisfying night. The topper of the night, close to close when I left, police had cordoned off the area just down the block, in front of Augie's, and a couple ambulances stood by. At the time, I didn't know exactly what had happened but it was enough to get my ass in gear and out of there.

The next day, I found out there was a shooting there. Maybe a half block from where I was hanging out. I don't remember anything about any deaths or any injuries, just, "Holy shit." It put downtown Minneapolis very, very high on -- okay, at the top of my "Do Not Visit" list.

Yet, in the wee hours of the night late last week, I did go back.
