King of the Midfield
In Formula 1, there is often a gap between the top teams (McClaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, RB) and the rest of the teams (collectively known as the "midfield"). The battle for the best of the rest is known as the "fight for the midfield." The winner of this battle is certainly not the best team on the grid, but a respectable P4/5 in the Constructor's Championship can bring significant pride/value to a team. That is the best analogy I can make for Hi Liter, and hopefully my fellow F1 fans can appreciate the comparison. This review covers 3 separate visits over the summer, since there's not much else to do in Phoenix this time of year.
The club is located near Camelback and 12th, which is a fairly nice area by Phoenix standards. I damn near blew out my car's suspension coming off the 51 to Highland as I did not realize the club was near a residential area with lots of speedbumps. Lesson learned. The parking lot is fairly large, with spaces at nearby businesses if it ever gets full. Upon entering, your ID is scanned and you are charged $10 for cover. Sometimes a bouncer is there who will take you to a seat and awkwardly wait around for a tip after providing such a vital service. When you enter, the bar/kitchen is along the right wall of the club, semi-transparent VIP booths are along the left, and the stage in the back. The best place to sit is in the back left against the wall, as that is where the most dancers pass by and you can get a good lay of the land. There's often dancers chilling on their phones in that area as well, as they wait to go on stage or scope out the customers.
Hi Liter got a bad rep several years back for importing tons of Cuban dancers to replace the regulars, and it was reported that the dance quality/mileage went down as well. I can happily say that in my experience, that is no longer the case. Dancers from Cuba, Venezuela, and the DR are certainly well represented, but I've consistently seen AA, white, Asian, and American Latina dancers as well. Speaking Spanish will certainly help of course, but plenty of options if you're one of the few Arizonans who hasn't picked it up. In terms of attractiveness, this is where a high degree of variability is introduced. Most are in the 5-7 range, but I can almost always pick out one or two 9's from the bunch. You also might get jumpscared by dancers who look like they just checked out of a senior living facility. If rock-hard BBLs are your thing, you'll be very happy here. If you prefer spinners, you might have to pass on a few, but should be able find one in no time. Nonetheless, there's variety in terms of the shapes, shades, and sizes of the dancers.
