Not great, not bad, businesslike environment

I was in NYC in November for work and had a free Monday evening. I was staying just a little north of here so decided to walk over. The door was a $20 cover charge and easy coat check, and then you're in the club as described elsewhere. It's NYC, so nothing is very big, but it has enough space for what it is. The room you enter is long and narrow with a bar on the right. Girls tended to gather some on the left because it's also that direction that you get to the main dance area.

I sat at the bar long enough for a beer and got a usual parade of "want a dance?" from several dancers. They were attractive, but not a single one was remotely engaging beyond "want a dance?" and "where are you from?" Of course it's a business and my expectations are reasonable, but the overall vibe was extremely transactional. (As a famous NY-er might say, not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I moved back to the main room and got a decent seat on the back wall. Girls would rotate through the stage and then work the room. The shrewd dancers seemed to commandeer corner booths or benches and try to get a series of dances. Others would do a dance or two along the benches in the more open part. VIP seemed to be at the back, and I saw a slow, but steady, flow of dancers and customers to that.
