Varsity Cubans

Had a little more than an hour to kill picking a friend up from the airport so decided to get a drink and see the sights. As a nostalgic note, this is apparently the club that Varsity Blues was shot in - “A 10, a 10, a fucking 10!” This club is in an industrial park area right off the highway, 7-8 minutes from the Austin airport. It’s a bit tricky - it’s almost off an access road that runs parallel to the highway. Use your phone GPS and you’ll be fine.

Pulled in around noon and was expecting it to be completely dead, but there were a good number of cars in the lot. Upon entering there’s a front desk/vestibule. It was a $5 cover and was given a wristband with the day of the week on it. I did confirm that the cover was good for the whole day should we decide to come back.

Bathrooms are to the left of the front desk. Narrow hallway into the main club. Bar is to the right, no stools. Stage is to the left with a giant LED screen behind it showing sports at this hour. The whole floor is two top tables with rolling club chairs. Looks like there’s a VIP area in the back but it also looks very open and could see several staff back there so wasn’t tempted to pay what I learned was $70 to access that part of the club.
