Nice club, some good dances, not many dancers, and some didn't want to be there
I decided to give Onyx a try because they've been hyping their new "Follies dayshift", and dances at Vivide changed for the worse. Onyx was about a twenty minute drive from downtown Atlanta. There seemed ample parking. It wasn't busy when I arrived about 3:30pm on a Saturday. The guy at the door did a casual pat-down. I wasn't charged for parking or asked for an ID. Cover charge was $10.
The club inside was pleasant, though perhaps leaning a bit too hard into the red lighting. A long stage ran down the middle of the room, with booth seating along the sides. More booths with padded benches were in slightly elevated sections divided by low walls on each side of the room. There were bars at either end, each with seating. The one in the back had seats behind the bar, with backs to a giant TV and facing back into the club. The furnishings were in good shape. The place felt a step up from Vivide, though I missed the high ceiling. A bottle of water was $6.
Dancers performed on stage most of the time I was there, despite the small number of patrons. They didn't seem scheduled or in any sort of cycle, but moved to different places along the stage. Some twerked, a few danced, clothing was moved around and sometimes taken off. It was diverting, but not engaging. The elevated booths along the sides of the room provided for a good view of the entire stage, which was nice.
