Sports-themed club with good basic lap dances
Hoops is right next door to Rick's in midtown Manhattan. I was in Rick's for an hour or so, and then went next door to check out Hoops. The door guy waived the cover charge. I'm not sure if it was because the club was slow, I'd just walked over from Rick's, or maybe because the guy at the cashier counter was taking a while for some reason. He asked twice if I had an ID, but never wanted to actually look at it.
Inside, there was a bar on the left with a walkway and a couple of tall tables, then the room opened up to surround a small stage. There were some low tables and chairs. Padded benches ran along the walls for lap dances. Wall mirrors enhanced the view of the stage and made the space feel larger than it was.
When I arrived a bit after midnight on a Wednesday, the club was pretty dead. There were maybe a dozen dancers, but only a handful of other patrons. A waitress came by immediately; my bottle of water was $11. The bartender was engrossed in a conversation with one guy and was hard to get anything from, even though there were no other patrons. She also refused to give me change for larger bills in anything other than ones.
