OGD Failed To Meet Low Expectations
Staying in the Akron area for a couple days, and wanted to experience what sounds like quite a train-wreck of an SC scene first-hand. The first stop was very much in line with those expectations.
I showed up at OGD about 7:30 p.m., just after getting into town. Other reviews had raised some safety questions so I wanted to go while it was still light out. I figured I had about an hour or hour and a half of daylight left, and I didn't plan to stay that long. Those reviews were correct, this is indeed in a beat-up part of Akron. The people outside the bar seemed friendly enough, but I'd still be hesitant to go after dark.
Inside it's basically one room, with a bar running most of the length of one wall and three tables against the other. There was also a pool table to the side of all that. To call this place a dive is too kind -- it would need a complete remodel to rise all the way up to dive level. Chairs were beat-up and ripped; the walls were covered in old wood paneling, and the ceiling tiles had long-since dried-up water stains all over. It's really a dump.
