The Outhouse: More Barn Than Boudoir
If I had to sum up my experience at The Outhouse in Lawrence, I’d say it’s less “sensual night out” and more “weird fever dream you tell your friends about because it was too bizarre to keep to yourself.” The place is a relic — not in a charming, nostalgic way, but in a “wow, they haven’t updated anything since the 90s” kind of way. It’s basically a big, dimly lit barn plopped in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by gravel and farmland. Romantic? Not exactly.
Inside, the vibe feels… awkward. The lighting is harsh where it shouldn’t be and murky where it should be flattering. The music sounds like it’s coming through a tin can, and the DJ’s choices swing wildly from random Top 40 hits to songs that feel like they were ripped from a 2003 bowling alley playlist. There’s no real atmosphere — no sense of luxury, seduction, or even much personality.
As for the entertainment, the dancers are doing their best, but the layout works against them. There’s no intimate stage presence — just a flat platform you feel almost too far from, unless you awkwardly shuffle right up to it. And let’s be honest: a strip club without a comfortable, enticing setup makes the whole thing feel transactional instead of enticing.
Drinks? Overpriced for what you get. Service? Hit or miss — some staff are nice, others act like you’re inconveniencing them by ordering. Cover charge? Not worth it for the overall quality.
Honestly, unless you’re specifically going for the novelty of saying “I went to The Outhouse” — which has a certain infamous reputation in the area — you’ll likely leave wondering why you didn’t just spend your money somewhere with actual ambiance. I’d rate it a solid 3/10, and that’s me being generous for the dancers who are trying to make the most of a not-great setup.
If you’re looking for a polished, sexy, or even just comfortable club experience, this isn’t it. It’s more of a curiosity than a destination.
