One Off, Time Will Tell

I stopped in at Porthole Pub around 5:00pm Saturday afternoon. Porthole has always seemed like a refuge for dancers who couldn’t get hired at one of Pompano’s big three clubs. It’s a predominantly an AA club with a couple of white and Latina dancers mixed in. One plus is that most all the dancers speak English. But you’re also likely to see dancers that are way too big, too old or too something to work anywhere else.

I enjoy stopping by sometimes just to take in the spectacle and enjoy a beverage before going on with my day. At this hour I think a Budweiser is $3, but a Red Bull is still full price at $7. Once in a while, you can run into a little gem and if you do, your dollar certainly goes a lot farther here than elsewhere.

Porthole is located on the far west end of a busy strip mall. For years this mall has always been full of an interesting mix of small businesses. Parking is free, but it may take a minute to find a spot. Once you walk in, expect to take a few seconds letting your eyes adjust. No cover before 7:00. There is a large square bar that seats 25 right as you walk in. The stage is to the left surrounded by a few tables and benches along the wall. Then towards the back of the club are the dance booths and bathrooms.
