Visited: Sunday Afternoon

I read here on TUSCL that Dollies was back in business, so on a Sunday mid-afternoon I walked in. The lights were all on, and no music was playing, and no dancers were evident...so I thought maybe the reports were erroneous (or Sundays were a closed day). But a charming lady was cleaning up (vacuum, dusting...), and she said "We're open, but none of the girls showed up on time..."

Well, she was charming and cute, and she asked me to stick around for a bit. I was getting a look at the remodeled Dollies Playhouse, and I was relatively impressed. Compared to the previous crap-hole, this place was now almost like a real club. (At least by Washington Park standards. WP is depressed.) So, I stuck around and talked with the lady, who happened to be the bartender.

Not too long after, three dancers appeared. Two at once, then later a third. All were only moderately pretty, but they were fun-loving and enjoyable company. One was very clear that she didn't do any of the kinds of activities for which Dollies was noted; one was very clear that she did all such activities; and the other was ambiguous about that. I spent awhile having a fun conversation (and tour, including upstairs) with the two who either didn't do much or were coy about it. Then, I took the other one into a private booth (locking doors now, rather than the previous infamous beads). There, we did things that I won't describe, given the disclaimer on the pages of TUSCL, "Everything on this site should be considered a work of fiction." But if I did describe the activities, the description would raise skepticism even from those who view the disclaimer as solid mantra. It was a very satisfying encounter, and not particularly costly.

Price information: Drinks are moderately overpriced. About 8 bucks for non-alcohol, and 12 for alcohol drinks. Dance prices are unknown, because no one danced onstage nor gave lapdances. The private room price is 30 bucks to the bar, and a completely variable and negotiable amount to the entertainer. Expect dancers to ask for too much, and to likely accept your counter-offer for much less.

Club layout details: It actually makes sense to include some of this information in this review, since it's changed considerably. Near the entrance are two closed-door private areas for "dances." On the right side of the entryway is a bar, that is reasonably stocked and has fixed-position stools. Adjacent to the bar is a video-jukebox that takes dollar bills to queue and play music. This jukebox is a scam, as single songs are one or two dollars apiece, and otherwise, no music is played in the club. There is one narrow stage along the left wall, with seating stage-side. There are a few small tables with uncomfortable-looking chairs. There is a tiny stage in the back portion of the club. Also near that back area is a doorway behind which are stairs to go up to another club area. This area is not yet finished, but will include another stage and more tables + chairs. Apparently, the upstairs will feature smoking, and the downstairs will be smoke-free.
