No shade for Shady Lady
Had been in a few years ago. Thought I’d try it again after seeing the prominent ad in the Pitch (the local alternative mag). It is an old building in a tough part of town, but they have tried to refurbish things. Easy to find—they say 30 seconds from Power & Light District. No, but it really is just a few minutes east on I-70. take Prospect exit and hit 12th and you are there. Well-lit gravel lots and new paint on the building. Inside was cleaner and newer furniture.
Before, I had been in during the day and could hardly tell they were open. No dancers on stage, no dancers circulating, no wait staff, nobody cared. This time there was a few tables of groups and dancers floating. The private area was open (no walls?), a little darker, and single curved-back bar chairs. Didn’t seem to have anybody bird-dogging it, but it was hard to do anything because you were feet away from other custies with their dancers and a few more feet from the general floor. There were two stages, only using one. Elevated about a foot off the floor. There was supposedly another VIP area at the south side of the big room, enclosed with doors and maybe one-way glass. It was $250 for 15 minutes back there, but I didn’t sample.
The waitress was aggressive, but constantly floating. The bartender was a little quirky, but more of a neighborhood kind of guy. Interesting mix of dancers and clientele. Some Hispanic, some white, a couple of AA, some Asian. Did not feel unsafe. Talked with Ashton, a pretty slender brunette. Some tats, good personality. Pretty face. Dances were $30 per. She was decent, not naughty. Limited by the shape of the scalloped bar chairs. I didn’t think you got the full $30 value.
