Low Cost, Low Return at The Katt
I was in the Hampton Roads area and saw that this club was in desperate need of a more current review, so I decided to take one for the team. The club itself is fairly easy to get to, but the entrance and parking are behind the building which requires taking a turn on Union Street, not Warwick Blvd itself. The area isn't the greatest, and there is only about five or so spots for the club itself, so you're actually in a big open lot that appears to be shared with some sketchy apartment buildings. Bottom line: lock your doors. There is little signage on Warwick, and not much more at the rear entrance. There is an outside smoking/sitting area that was probably patio eating from whenever in its past Katt was a regular restaurant. It is at least fenced off from the rest of the parking lot.
There was a bouncer station at the door, but it was unmanned when I walked in. There was one girl on the center stage when I walked in, a cute goth with tight abs and black latex bikini with harness. This is only a bikini bar, so at least she did her best to slut it up. I sat at the bar and got a bottled beer for less than $5; at the end of the night, with a lady drink and a six pack downed by me, my bill only came to $30. Even with dinner and tipping at the rail I was out the door for less than $100. Most guys (less than six) weren't tipping at all. There were four dancers in rotation, all well above average fitness, with two in their 20s and two in their 40s. I like fit chicks, so this worked for me. Surprisingly for the area, three were white. The goth girl ran over to her regulars after her set but all the girls were friendly. I sat with one for quite a while and got to hear her whole backstory. Since there's no lap dances here, that's as far as you're going to get.
If I lived in the area the Katt wouldn't be the worst club to be a regular at. The food was decent, true to its restaurant heritage, it was clean enough and safe enough, and had a surprising amount of talent. Maybe with enough time you could establish a rapport for some OTC, but even if you're not into that the Katt reminded me of a Asian Hostess Bar, except with cheaper drinks, more skin, and less stilted conversation. In fact, if I were a club manager in Newport News, given the restrictions on clubs in the area, that is the exact business model I would follow.
