Tuesdays with Scrub … or … HiLiter is a completely different club during the day

When I was last in Phoenix for work, my schedule wasn’t great for clubbing. I was flying in on a Sunday afternoon and out on Tuesday around 5p, plus I had actual meetings and meals with colleagues to navigate. I hit up the locals and got some great intel after acknowledging my less than ideal windows to explore the clubs. I was able to hit up HiLiter on Monday night. I had a good time, but it was definitely quiet. Scrub had told me he wouldn’t set foot in the place on an early weeknight, but if I could drop by on Tuesday afternoon he’d meet me. Here’s what transpired:

I ditched my conference after lunch and told my colleagues I was going to head to the airport early and take a few phone calls before my flight. In reality, I changed into my super soft clubbing shorts, stylish footwear and a sharp tshirt. I was nervous before meeting the world famous desertscrub and wanted to make a good impression. What if he saw me and immediately pointed at me and yelled CLUB AD!!!!? I could be banned from tuscl and the HiLiter forever.

The parking lot was much more crowded at 2p on a Tuesday than it was Monday evening. I went inside and there were two bouncers in the vestibule. One scanned my ID and I went inside. No cover that I remember. Scrub had described himself so I could find him, but height and weight in a pitch black club when all the customers are sitting down was pretty useless so I headed to the bar. I ordered a modelo like a fucking amateur. Draft beers and mixed drinks are 241 in the afternoon so my bottled beer signaled to the world I was an outsider. The beer was maybe 6 bucks, but still, rookie mistake. Once I had my drink I shot scrub a pm. I had a suspect identified across the room and sure enough, when I sent my pm, I saw the guy reach into his pocket, check his phone and look over to where I was sitting at the bar. I jumped up and joined scrubby at his table.
