Hong Kong Phooey
I made it back to the famous (or infamous) Hong Kong Gentlemen’s club after several years and for the most part, it still lives up to its reputation. I was here on both Friday and Saturday during the mid-afternoon. Not many changes since my last visit but the standard prices for the girls has gone up considerably. I will elaborate on that further on in my review.
There are two entrances/exits. The main one faces the street of Coahuila and the back entrance/exit is in the alley. There is a metal detector and pat down by the security at both entrances. No cover during the day. The club is two stories with ample tables and booths. No high chairs other than the ones at both of the bars. Speaking of the bars, there are two of them on opposite ends of the club where the girls dance on top for about two or three songs. There are two main stages also on opposite ends with two poles each and a couple of circular satellite stages. Restrooms are near the rear exit with a quiet elderly bathroom troll that supplies the typical items you need as well as candy bars and Viagra/Cialis. Not sure of the prices for the pills in the club but I buy one at one of the pharmacies for $10. Las Chavelas is adjacent and accessible from Hong Kong on the inside.
There is an emcee/DJ that gets on the mic every so often to hype the crowd and encourage tips but he is not over the top in comparison to other DJ’s, especially the DJ’s in the black clubs of the USA. To my surprise, they play a lot of the mainstream R&B/rap music of today. In the past it was a bit of a mixture of other genres such as pop and rock/alternative to reflect the customer demographic but now urban music has mostly taken over. I even heard the DJ play tracks from the lesser mainstream artists such as Lil Durk, Latto, Pop Smoke, and Pooh Shiesty. The songs are played out fully but that doesn’t really matter in the clubs in Mexico in the scheme of things.
