This club has been around since the questionable "glory" days of the Combat Zone 15 years ago. It was a high-pressure, low-satisfaction ripoff back then, except that some of the girls were obviously available for takeout. I never was that dumb... you took your life in your hands in that neighborhood, and the idea of going upstairs to be introduced to someone's pimp never appealed. One went to the Slipper for the eye candy -- notably (ah, nostalgia ... what the hell was I drinking then?) a drop-dead gorgeous woman named Cheyenne.

OK, so it's 2006, I'm in Chinatown for a superb meal, and just for old time's sake, I look in at the Slipper. The neigborhood has gotten positively upscale, with a Centerfolds franchise (crappy) over the street, all the peep shows gone, and a strong sense of imminent condominiumization. If you're nostalgic for seediness, the Slipper may make you feel better, but you will be hustled to spend a lot of money for not much. Conversations with girls begin with "buy me a drink" and frequently end there. I didn't partake of a LD, but my companion reported that his was all air. The girls were attractive enough (mostly), but either aloof or over-anxious to get into my wallet, with no one I'd really write home (or here) about. The grade of 3 is mostly in Cheyenne's memory, and for the best Thai food in the Northeast just down the block.
