I went to Xcess Gentlemen’s Club on a Saturday night around 21:30. The entire parking lot was full, but more due to a lack of parking spaces than a big crowd. I had to park a block away in an overflow lot for the Tropicana Casino and walk. I was charged a $5 cover at the door. For a Saturday night, this downtown strip club was very dead. I think the summer weather meant people were having fun outdoors versus going to a gentlemen’s club. The ratio of dancers to customers was 1:1. A Sincweiser was $5, and a small plastic cup of soda from the bar gun with too much ice was $3. The inside of Xcess has a spacious, upscale appearance. There is a large island stage with two poles. The pole on the left spins, while the pole on the right was stationary. All of the music was either rhythm and blues or hip hop.

I saw about twenty different dancers. About sixty percent of the dancers were African-American, and the other forty percent were white or Hispanic. The Caucasian dancers tended to be under 24 years old and slim. The black dancers tended to be mostly athletic, but there were a couple big ones in the mix as well. Dancers strip down to topless, but a local ordinance has them wearing pasties over their nipples. Hustle factor was very low. Most dancers seemed content to make money during their stage sets and spend the rest of the time drinking with regulars.
