An Interesting Evening At The House
The House had been on my bucket list for quite a while and via their FB page I determined they were open. So off I went on Saturday March 6. Parking is hit-or-miss. I was fortunate to find a space about a block and a half away on Georgia Ave. Otherwise you are parking in the residential neighborhood nearby which can be a challenge. I arrived about 10:15 and paid the $40 entry fee. I thought the entry fee was a bit high.* Next I had my temperature checked and then was frisked pretty thoroughly. Turns out, that was the closest contact I had with anyone working on this night, which I pretty much expected since this is a DC club afterall.
The House has 3 stages; 1 each off to the left and right of the larger main stage. No one was on any of the stages when I arrived. And the 3 stages remained unused throughout the evening. The bar is sort of inaccessible IMO. It is down a couple of steps from the main floor and is in very tight quarters (no 6’ of separation here if you’re in line to get a drink). There is no bar seating. You get your drink and bring it with you to the main seating area. Or, I believe, also there are people working the floor (dancers?) who will take your drink order and bring it to your seat. The bar sells soda, bottle water, juice and liquor, but no beer at all. I’d like to know what the thinking was there. Maybe not selling beer cuts down on trash, broken glass, etc.? I tend not to drink when I go clubbing but I did initially order a Bud Light. I ended up with a Coke ($7 for a 10 oz cup). There were some food selections listed as well. I didn’t see anyone having food.
*Pro tip: Apparently I was supposed to have gotten a ticket when I paid my cover. And the ticket apparently would have been good to use for my first Coke. Oh well.
