It's a damn impressive show at least

As part of a trip to Portland, I had time to kill most nights. On Saturday night, I finally decided to go ahead and try out the Kit Kat Club. It's more of a tourist spot than a lot of the other clubs, but I hadn't been there before and it was near my hotel, so why not. I got there around 10:30 or 10:45, apparently just in time for Katurday Night Live (yes, they called it that).

Bouncer checked ID and had a very quick speech on rules (no touching the dancers, ask them for a dance, no photography or video, no cellphones at all if you're sitting at the stage). The note on asking for a dance I heard at a few places this time around; I'm wondering if there's actually a regulation or something that'd explain why dancers mentioning it is so rare in Portland.... $5 cover I believe, $3 or $4 for a coke. One semi central circular stage near the bar with 15-20 seats at it, then lots of tables sort of concentric from there. Another stage in the back corner, and two poles on the side/back wall. During the normal dancing portions, they had 4 girls up. During "showtime", it was just the main stage. Patrons were probably 50-70% female, lots of couples and groups. Women at the stage tended to get extra attention/fondling during the rounds to pick up bills, men still got attention, headstands in laps, etc; just a little less.

Basically, they have a couple of 'feature' shows each night at 11 and 1, with relatively normal dancing in between. Since I was there in time for a showcase, I grabbed the last available seat at the stage and settled in. Courtesy (and a bouncer's glare) has you put up $1 per song per person. The dancers during the showcase were full-on insane. Something like 10-12 dancers in the course of an hour, with costumes, props, and at least some choreography, as well as an MC who came out to tell jokes, play with the crowd a little, and introduce each girl. Each girl did 2 full-length songs, usually losing the top during the first song and the bottom at the beginning of the second. There was some sexiness, but honestly a lot of it was just more impressive than anything else.
