Hong Kong is amazing but everything goes by formula

I prepared for my trip to HK and Tijuana for weeks. I was going to San Diego and had ½ a day off on Tuesday. I read all of the great SCL recommendations. Watched “Docunography”. Money in shoes and a fake wallet, lots of 1’s for tips, passport, and a second wallet hidden in my vest. I’m ready to get a VIP pass on a Tuesday with an 80% discounted room, drink and ½ price lap dance. Loaded pockets with toiletries. Set to have an experience to keep me warm as I age.

Well the time comes and I almost chicken out. Tijuana is listed as one of the world’s top 30 most dangerous cities. Murder, corrupt cops, … I don’t speak Spanish. So all that said, I get my courage, and call an UBER. I left for the boarder a about 11 AM, I want to be in and out before it gets dark at 4:30. No traffic and I arrive in 15 minutes. The UBER driver gives me some more intel convinces me it is safe. Ten minute walk and I’m in Mexico. The white cabs are lined up, (I avoid the yellow cabs), and pay my 100 pasos. He drops me off in front of HK. Its not even noon, so I walk around the block to see the area a bit, but careful not to wander too far or get attention from the police. It’s just like on the videos: Girls on the street, leaning on walls, $20 plus $5 for the room.

I pass the curtains and I’m in HK. Stages everywhere with beautiful girls, but I don’t get my usual woody response. The music is great, with so much base the whole building shakes. Still nothing. The 2 dozen women were better than most any strip club. Still amazingly nothing. There are only a dozen customers and double that many bouncers, but the concierge don’t bother me. I order a beer, which run $4 to $5 depending on brand. Baby sits next to me and plays with me a bit and I start to respond. Still no where near usual.
