I almost ruined a good time with preconceptions
If you spend any time on tuscl researching Chicago, you will quickly learn that mileage in the city is low and clubs are expensive. You will also learn that if you are staying downtown on a business trip as many of us do, that your options are limited. Properly jaded and with low expectations, I headed to Rick’s on a Sunday night about 10p. I wasn’t going to overspend! That attitude cost me, though I was able to salvage a decent night.
My Uber from downtown was reasonable, about $9. Rick’s is in an industrial part of town that was otherwise quiet on this Sunday night. It’s not unsafe but there’s not much within walking distance of the club that would have you wandering around, at least that I could see. I paid a $10 cover.
The club is nice inside, upscale with a long bar on the back wall parallel with the stage, which has two spinning poles to make it easy for the dancers to do some pretty good stage tricks. There are a number of floor tables and two VIP areas, one is the 15 mins for $140 open seating with a half wall and smoked glass to obstruct the view and another is for long times and further secluded but I didn’t make it in there.
