Visited: Tuesday Afternoon

I was back in Atlanta for a short work trip and, with time for one club visit, decided to go back to Follies. I arrived about 2:00pm on a Tuesday. The valet was $10 (down from $20 my last visit, which I think was at a similar time). There were two ladies at the entrance counter, one helping the other with some sort of tooth-whitening UV device. They said no cover fee, just a tip. I dropped in $5 and wasn't hassled. There was no pat down or outdoor guard when I arrived.

Inside the club was as dark as I remembered. Follies is definitely the darkest venue I've been to, though PTs Show Club in St. Louis (i.e. Centerville) might be close. The layout and amenities haven't changed. The bar is straight ahead (down some stairs which are mildly hazardous when first in from the bright outside), and there are "L" shaped stages to both the left and right, with seating mixed in. The bathroom is on the near right. I blinked a few moments and did a circle before going to the bar for a drink and change. The club was busy compared to any other place on Tuesday at 2, but was relatively quiet for Follies. It still took a while to get the attention of the bartender. Once I did, my water was $5.00.

I took up a spot on the bench facing the stage on the left/DJ side of the club. The crowd had a bit of ebb and flow, but there were usually places to sit. I enjoyed the relatively low-key vibe, though more than one dancer commented on how slow it was with less enthusiasm. The main downsides of the slower time for me were the relatively smaller number of dancers and the lack of stage performers. They did eventually get some dancers to go up on stage, and a few were even enthusiastic if not particularly skilled, performers.
